    what cars say...

So, i have a lot of time on my hands....which means a lot of time entertaining myself.  Which seems to be paying off in terms of entertaining my friends, too.  I did work this past weekend at the LuLuLemon warehouse sale where i met a lot of pretty cool people, quite a few of whom were doing the job hunting thing as i am right now (which is UCKY--so we are clear).

The point of this is that i have decided different cars say different things.  for example--Dodge Nitros (which a friend is considering getting) says "GRRRRRR."  I joke that his present car (an Evolution) looks like a toy and so says, "Heeeheeeheee, i'm over here."  I've started mulling over other car types since....the TT says, "hello princess".  Toyota Yaris hatchbacks say, "I wish i was something else."  The Jeep Compass i am looking at says, "yes, i know i am not as cool as a grand cherokee."  My family's old Caravan said "tough luck, i refuse to die" for nearly 20 years.

Feel free to add to the list.

Leila adds: shaun thinks that "Subarus say 'I’ll be with you forever and go anywhere you could possibly want to go'".

    happy birfday to meee

There are three beautiful bouquets on my kitchen counter (the pic below is of the flowers my sister Anna sent), the house smells like star-gazer lilies and tulips and my cell phone battery has almost died already from messages and phone calls.  My incredible roommates took me for sushi dinner and got the tastiest chocolate/rasberry cake from Coldstone :)  Its been a really long time since I had a birthday this good!!  Its following on the heels of a tough week--so each moment is well appreciated.  27 is shaping up pretty well i think.  Thank you to each person who's made the last 24 hours so good.

We had this lil dinner on the eastside last night...devin cooked indian food (yummy yummy), we watched kira's old dance videos to prep for this coming weekend's recital and tana, dhab, and i tried to remember how to do these funky dances from when we were in a performing arts group as teenagers---we were super cool at the time, seriously, people would ask for autographs and stuff sometimes. Unfortunately, now some ten years plus later, we just look like 90s hip hop superstars now though! Although, I can still do the Roger Rabbit for anyone who that means anything to!!  If that doesn't mean anything to you take it to mean that i am super cool and if MC Hammer ever put together another show, i could sooo be a backup dancer.

Which leads us to the job thing...no i don't have one yet, but workin on it.  The other picture is what i look like when i get up in the morning to send in more job applications. Yup, sleepy and in my funky red walled living room.  Yay for birthdays, friends, flowers, and job applications.

    the wicked whistler weekend

Whistler Village: -13 degrees Celcius, shady
Top of Blackcomb: -6 deg. C, sunny
    Snow: Packed powder, fresh
Logical conclusion: Don't come down off the mountain.

We spent a great weekend up at Blackcomb/Whistler...which is the first time i have been there since senior year of high school--which makes it ten years.  Never-the-less, it was as awesome as i remembered....and seemed fitting that being the first place i really felt good snowboarding it would be the place i would feel that again.  Yup, got it back ladies and gents....the new gear rocked.  AND I really really enjoyed the endless laughter, Texas Hold'um games, a thwarted attempt at Risk domination, an interpretive dance competition, good food and great friends.

I think devin has some up too--his blog is in the links list--including ones taken in the park the day when i didn't go up (pounded my left wrist and everything ached....guess that's what i get for being out of shape).

    Adopt-A-Mar/Wish you were here

It was a good week...a really good week. So last night we went to the Incubus concert at the Paramount Theatre to celebrate....all part of the "Adopt-a-Ghetto-Child" program that's goin on to take care of me (as i live just a block off a slightly ghetto-fied street, Aurora).  To reassure mom and dad, its like a cross Miami Blvd in Durham....the southern part before it gets a lil rougher by Derick's mama's house...and our old neighborhood.  Looks like Miami, feels like home. Anyways, Dani helped track down last minute general admission tickets--i'm lovin CraigsList-- and we packed in with more underage kids than i have ever seen at a concert.

Everyone was sitting on the floor patiently waiting when we got there--which was weird, but soon the crush was on....and i thought i was going to get trampled by big people as the whole crowd was moving in waves like a giant mosh pit for the first twenty minutes.  The show was tight. I love incubus--have for years--and was really happy to be able to go...so i am sharin the love and the lyrics to the song i think we deemed to be mine, or (AS I AM SOO LOVINGLY REMINDED) i might (read like 99.9% chance) have deemed to be mine but that they didn't play, Southern Girl...

    Southern Girl
    Is everything a baited hook?
And are there locks on all doors?
If you're looking for an open book,
Look no further, I am yours.
We'll behave like animals, swing from tree to tree
We can do anything that turns you up
    and sets you free.

You're an exception to the rule
    You're a bonafide rarity.
You're all I ever wanted; southern girl,
    could you want me?

So come outside and walk with me
We'll try each other on, see if we fit
And with our roots become a tree
To shade what we make under it.
We'll behave like animals, swing from tree to tree.
We can do anything that turns you up
    and sets you free.

You're an exception to the rule
    You're a bonafide rarity
You're all I ever wanted; southern girl,
    could you want me?

    NYE and such

    New Years Eve...n such.

Ilissa's been here visiting...which has seriously been a godsend for my sanity.  For anyone not familiar with the mar/ilissa history, we met in santiago chile in 2002.  NO one thought we would be friends (and tight we became) and no one thought that we would survive backpacking around Chilean patagonia for spring break....still here alive and kickin.

Anyways, ilissa was kind enough to come join me from Baltimore for the new years celebrations ...which began on the 30th.  We went to the Common Market/Blue Scholars show with Neda/Farsh and his sisters, which was off the hook.  and then we spent new years at neda's parents....playing mafia and poker and uno with great company. Lots of laughs and snacks.

The highlight was the homeless guy, who didn't smell so pretty, announcing to the bus "the girls are coming" when we were getting on to go home one day after an ill fated trip to find the fremont sunday market....never been announced before!
