    February 14

    Cupid-belongs-in-hell Day.

I despise valentines. mostly because i am a romantic and i dislike the commercialization of a holiday which should be super sweet and thoughtful, a little because i have to go to school tonight and a smidgen b/c i have no one at home to do something with later---Court is in NY and Dus in LA. I was planning on going on this long winded tirade about how usless today is....and then i thought of something better to write about.

My brother in law's name is Greg. Greg's brother passed away yesterday suddenly. I know he's been a hard blow for him to take and my heart really goes out to him. It triggered me thinking about my sisters quite a bit. Laura, Anna, and adoptedly Nadia, are all really incredible individuals. Laura defended me from the 3 little pigs at Disney world when i was about a year old. I would say that they acosted me, but that's definitely too dramatic. They came over to play and the sight of three overgrown piglets in sailor suit-ish costumes apparently freaked me out.  The pictures from when i was very small, before she graduated high school, show that we were pretty tight---i am clinging to her in most of them. My favorite one, we are sitting in my father's favorite leather chair--i'm a month old or so (maybe 3 mo?), with the fattest cheeks ever and a black mohawk. She's managed to pop back up now and then in my life when i needed a moment to catch my breath--for which i am endlessly grateful.  She is fierce, determined, loyal, brillantly smart, and can sell just about anything to just about anybody. Plus, she too did the work and school thing---so this must be a thing the women in my family do.

Anna is stubborn. Like beats me at my own game stubborn. She is creative, strong willed and funny, loves nature and the ocean, and is a brilliant writer. I forgive her for being a skier only b/c she uses short skis. We used to make witch potions in the back yard in a wheel barrow and perfumes from household items in our bathroom. When we moved out of that house our mama found container after container of the stuff--none of which was particularly nasty smelling, but all of which was very nasty colored!  I had the unfortunate ability to injure her unintentionally--which i think is ever the older sibling's curse. The best time was when we were on one of the bouncy moonwalk things in Finland jumping in opposite directions and in my lanky flailing i punched her in the face, knocking out her loose tooth and causing a 15 minute hunt in the moonwalk for the tooth--guess the tooth fairy was down to fly to Scandanavia.

Nadia and i adopted each other at 14--the first week of 10th grade.  Her birthday is coming up in the near future though, so i am going to save the Nadia stories and stuff for that.
Anyways, the point is that i love my sisters a lot, get the see them rarely and think of them often. And i hope the accept this as my little burst of love on the day when cupid should be damned---he's red and got a bow and arrows, which means he should be where everyone else red with prong ended things goes--hell!
